Staff Bio: John Ploetz
MEA's Director of Member Services

What has kept you with MEA for 7 years?
MEA's members have great values. When they make decisions, I am continually impressed by their insistence on balancing what is good for the industry with what is good for their business. It is satisfying for me to provide information that contractors need to solve their business problems.
The MEA staff is a fast-paced team dedicated to providing the best quality possible at the most reasonable cost. The emphasis on creative, win-win solutions encourages solutions involving coalitions for legislation, training, purchasing, and the like.

Tell us about your background... Raised in Milwaukee, John was recruited by Valparaiso University in Indiana to play Division One basketball. After graduating with a degree in Math/English, John went on to earn his JD from Hamline Law School. After practicing law for a number of years, John decided to make a career change into the association field.

Family and hobbies... John's wife, Diane, is a Grant Manager for the State of Minnesota. They have one child, a precocious 16-year old daughter who has a number of talents including Korean dancing. His wife and daughter are the beneficiaries of his cooking and gardening hobbies. When relaxing, John also loves to read, and he is currently working his way through the mystery series written by Preston & Child.

What fun personal fact are you willing to share with members... I never miss an episode of NCIS. It is my favorite show and I have a secret crush on Abby.

What is the last book that you read... The Wheel of Darkness by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It is about a remote monastery where a rare and dangerous artifact that the monks have been guarding for generations has been mysteriously stolen. Don't tell me the ending!

What are you looking forward to doing when you retire... Traveling to places that are warm and have good scenery.
