Member Spotlight - John Kuntz

MEA is bringing back the Member Drive! So far this year, we are at 37 new members. Let’s keep the momentum going and bring in even more members in 2018. Details to follow after the Winter Conference in December.

This month’s Member Spotlight features John Kuntz of Kuntz Electric, Inc. in Rochester, MN. John holds the second place overall in the MEA Gold Club Standings, having brought in numerous contractors to the association during his 28 years as an MEA member. When he’s not contracting, John can be found spending time with his wife Karen, their three daughters and five grandchildren. We caught up with John today to hear his take on MEA and how new contractors can benefit from joining.

How did you become involved with MEA?

Mike Buck (former chair, now with Dakota County Technical College) introduced me. MEA is a great way to meet other contractors and gain access to resources. At my first conference, I met guys like Kenny Javens and Dale Jackson, who I’m still friends with today.

You’ve brought in a lot of members to the association over the years. What would you say to a newer contractor who’s on the fence about joining?
Inviting them to a conference! Once you convince them to show up, they will see the value that MEA provides and it’s huge. For me, it boils down to the personal relationships I’ve made, access to business information, and all the work we have accomplished at the legislature.

What is your favorite MEA benefit?

Networking and the relationships I’ve made over the years. At MEA, you have access to great people and the plethora of knowledge is amazing. At meetings, you are always sharing ideas with other contractors on topics ranging from electrical work and vehicles, to HR and insurance.

Aside from work, what other hobbies do you have?

Baseball. I’m a huge Twins fan, so I try to make it to as many home games as possible. We’ve also traveled to games at other stadiums around the country, including Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston, and we were in Kansas City earlier this year.
