Member Spotlight
Jeff Kunkel, Kunkel Electric, Mapleton MN
This month’s Member Spotlight features Jeff Kunkel of Kunkel Electric Inc. in Mapleton, MN. Jeff is the newly elected Secretary of the Minnesota Electrical Association's Board of Directors. We are so happy to have him in a position of leadership!
Kunkel Electric Inc. started in 1958 and is celebrating its 60th birthday. The company has been a loyal member of MEA since 1968 when Jeff’s grandfather, Bernie, owned the business. Jeff’s father Mike took over in 1990 and then turned the business over to Jeff Kunkel in 2016.
Jeff started working for his family’s company out of high school. Kunkel Electric focuses on commercial and industrial services and a little bit of residential. They serve a niche market of outdoor lighting at athletic facilities. Mike is currently focused on a new business of building campers.
Jeff has been a trainer for Minnesota Electrical Association for 18 years. He teaches Year 2 of our apprenticeship curriculum as well as teaching NEC Code in both classroom and online courses.
Jeff’s favorite part of MEA is the ability to socialize and network with other MEA members at our conferences. The ability to speak with others that are experiencing the same challenges is very valuable.
When Jeff is not working he is busy taking his three children and three foster children to activities. Baseball, Boy Scouts, football, and church camps are some of the various activities the children participate in. His oldest child, Samantha, will be headed to college this fall to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Talent available!
Jeff is currently looking for a band needing a trumpet player. He has 12 years of experience. Any groups in the Mapleton area looking to recruit Jeff can send MEA a letter of interest!
