Updated License Renewal Information

Thank you to Kevin Wilkins, Manager of Licensing & Certification Services for the Construction Codes Licensing Division (CCLD) of the Department of Labor & Industry (DOLI) for providing a correction and the following update on licensing renewals for electricians.

Unlicensed Electrician Registrations

Expirations: Unlicensed worker registrations expire annually and are tied to the date when they first registered. All unlicensed registrations expire on the last day of each month one year after they became registered.

Renewals: Renewal notices are mailed to the address in our records at least 60 days before the expiration date. These registrations may be renewed online at www.doli.state.mn.us/paycenter by entering their registration number. Unlicensed individuals whose registrations lapse can be reinstated retroactively if they pay a late fee along with the registration renewal fee.

DOLI is currently working on a plan to post registered unlicensed individuals online so that employers and individuals know their current status. This will be a license list that updates daily and will post online at www.doli.state.mn.us/license_search and www.electricity.state.mn.us/licensing.

Licensed Electrician Registrations

Replacement renewal forms: Currently DLI does send out forms for license renewal, but will not provide a replacement renewal form. A generic license renewal form is now available.

Delivery Tracking: The department recommends that the best way to track payment and registrations is to send the renewal by priority mail with USPS delivery confirmation tracking that can be verified online at the USPS website to:

Minnesota Dept of Labor and Industry
Attn Financial Services / Electrical
PO Box 64227, St Paul MN 55164-0227

Licensing Questions: The new phone number that should be used for licensing questions is 651-284-5031.
