Staff Bio: Barb Sevak

23 years filled with friends, fun and achievement

staffbio-barbBarb Sevak "Weber" has stayed with MEA for 23 years because she enjoys the many friendships she has developed with members, staff and their families. She has great respect for the hard work it takes for electrical contractors to build a successful business and finds it satisfying that MEA's priority is to make their job easier. Over the years, Barb has gotten to know the spouses, employees and children at classes, conferences and social events and loves watching them grow professionally and personally.

Barb started at MEA has an accountant and, over the years, has made valuable contributions to the growth of the MEA News, national code book sales, and the education program. After being widowed in her 20s and raising two wonderful sons, Barb remarried several years ago. She and her husband, Herb, have a blended family of 4 sons, 1 daughter, 2 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 1 great-granddaughter, and her mom who's in her mid-80s and still "frisky." When pressed, Barb, said that she would just leave it at that and moved on to talking about how much she enjoys working part time. She looks for deals at antique shops, socializes with friends & neighbors, walks regularly, and, of course, dotes on grandkids, and she has just started reading "Everything's Eventual" by Steven King.

Always fun, Barb is willing to tell stories about herself. She once tried to fix a metal strip that was hanging off of her car, an awesome red firebird, and in the process, ended up super gluing her hand to the car. After yelling for help for what seemed hours (really only 15 minutes), it took 3 hours and 4 people to release her after lots of laughs.

When asked "What are you looking forward to doing when you retire?" she said, "Sleeping as late as we want, traveling, playing more golf and spoiling our grandchildren!" Knowing Barb—she will be most busy spreading laughter and happy memories.
