Governor Walz Lays Out COVID-19 Action Plan to Assist Hospitals, Provide New Rapid Testing Opportunities for Minnesota Families



On Friday, Governor Walz announced a comprehensive COVID-19 action plan to relieve Minnesota’s increasingly crowded hospitals and provide new rapid testing opportunities for Minnesota families. Governor Walz is taking immediate action to free up capacity at Minnesota’s long-term care facilities, in order to relieve hospital capacity. He is also taking steps to expand rapid COVID-19 testing opportunities to help Minnesotans find free, accessible, and quick testing resources in their communities. Governor Walz’s actions to help hospitals and expand rapid testing services come after he urged the Minnesota Legislature last week to take immediate action to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic.


Governor Walz Kicks Off Statewide Local Jobs and Projects Tour



Joined by representatives from Minnesota labor unions, Governor Walz kicked off a statewide Local Jobs and Projects tour on Thursday to highlight bonding projects under consideration for his capital investment proposal for the 2022 legislative session. Governor Walz made the announcement at the Duluth Seawall, a bonding project funded by the 2020 Local Jobs and Projects Plan.

“I’m excited to announce that we’re launching a statewide Local Jobs and Projects tour to hear directly from Minnesotans about the local infrastructure projects that matter most to them,” said Governor Walz. “Whether that's roads and bridges, clean water infrastructure, or affordable housing, a strong Local Jobs and Projects plan helps ensure every community across Minnesota prospers.”


Governor Walz Announces New COVID-19 Testing Site in Morris

On Wednesday, Governor Walz announced that the state is launching a new COVID-19 community testing site in Morris.

“With the addition of this new site, Minnesotans in and around Morris now have another safe, free, and easy testing option,” said Governor Walz. “Testing for COVID-19 helps keep our children safe in the classroom and workers protected on the job. Through the at-home testing program and community sites in cities around the state, Minnesotans have more opportunities to choose the option that is best for their families.”


Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day



Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan proclaimed Monday, October 11, 2021 as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Minnesota. The day honors our state and country's Tribal Nations and Native American communities' essential contributions they made to the history, culture, and economy. To celebrate, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor attended multiple events. 


Governor Walz Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for New State Veterans Cemetery



Also on Wednesday, Governor Walz, U.S. Senator Klobuchar, and Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Herke attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the new State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls.

"Today I was honored to break ground at Minnesota’s 4th State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls," said Governor Walz. "Those who raise their hand to serve our country deserve our utmost support and respect — during their service, when they return, and in their final resting place."


Governor Walz Attends PURIS Pea Protein Manufacturing Facility Grand Opening



Governor Walz also attended the PURIS pea protein manufacturing facility grand opening celebration in Dawson on Wednesday.

"Great to be at the PURIS and Cargill grand opening for a new manufacturing facility that is bringing 100 jobs to Dawson, Minnesota!" said Governor Walz.
