Entry into Electrical

Submitted by Michelle Dreier, Member Engagemt/Gov't Affairs Manager

Workforce development is hopping with lots of new programs and face-to-face events and even career fairs popping up. Look for more volunteer requests in the future. We need individuals to represent the electrical industry at career fairs, mock interviews (with the possibility for a real hire potential) and presentations.

Several formative programs are looking for donations in the form of advice, lighting retrofits, and mentorship. I’ve even been approached with an instructor request. A Native American organization would like to create a Handyman course and are looking for a part-time instructor. This might be a great opportunity for a retired electrician who would like to make a difference. Look for e-mails from me with these asks as I send them out to the greater membership later this month.

I work with lots of community-based organizations to bring entry-level talent with great workforce readiness skills to our membership. This list of organizations continues to grow.

Our workforce programs contain talent from these organizations:
• Goodwill Easter Seals Construction Program
• Goodwill Easter Seals Youthbuild
• Avivo
• Summit Academy OIC
• Takota OIC
• Eastside Neighborhood Services
• Lake Street Works
• North Minneapolis Clean Energy Training Center
• Sundance Family Foundation
• Plus 15 Technical Schools that have a construction electrician program

I’d like to thank these programs for the great work they do in training the next generation of workforce!
