Did you know Chapter 30, 32, 35, 1606 and 1607 veterans can use their GI Bill benefits for apprenticeship training and on-the-job training (OJT), if they are employed and are being trained for the job? Unemployment can cause tremendous hardship for workers and their families. If you have been laid off, your local MN WorkForce Center will work with you on a plan to keep or get your electrical licenses so you are ready return to work quickly. Their funds are limited so contact them before signing up for the class to assure that you will receive financial help for the:
Continuing Education Code Classes (required to keep your electrical license). License Exam Prep Classes and/or taking a Simulated Exam (prior to taking the exam to get your electrical license).

Unlicensed Worker Directory Now Online
Directories of all unlicensed electrical workers currently registered with DOLI are now available on line. Go to unlicensed worker directories.
Education for Unlicensed Workers Goes Into Effect
Effective October 19, 2009 all unlicensed electrical workers will need to complete 2 hours of NEC code training each year. The training will need to be completed during the year following the first yearly registration filing after the new law takes effect and for each year thereafter. View the rule as enacted. Please look for class offerings to be posted on the MEA website shortly.
New Prompt Pay Law on Residential Projects
Effective August 1st SF638/HF1056 as passed takes affect extending prompt payment requirements currently required on commercial projects to residential projects. Go to Bill as enacted.
Individual License Renewals

License renewal notices are sent by the state approximately 60 days in advance of the expiration date. If you have not received your notice and your license is up for renewal, the state has now made available an online renewal and change of address form. Fill out the form now and return it with:
Renewal registration for unlicensed workers

Yearly registration expires on the last day of the month one year after the date first registered. Visit the DOLI website to get the registration form.
Board Issues Interpretation on Solar Photovoltaic Systems
The Board of Electricity issued a final interpretation that Solar Photovoltaic Systems, including photovoltaic panels and their associated components, are electrical equipment under the State Electrical Code. Visit the DLI for a copy of the interpretation letter.
