Contractor License Renewals

Contractor License renewal March 1, 2012.

  You can down load the renewal forms by going to Contractor License Renewal forms. Follow the Instructions and Fill out the forms completely and include:
  1. Your check payable to the Department of Labor and Industry for $206.80.
  2. Send to the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, Construction Codes and Licensing, Licensing/Electrical, PO Box 64227, St. Paul, MN 55164-0227.
   

E-Trakit On line Permitting

The new E-Trakit on line permitting system now available for requesting permits throught Dept of Labor and Industry.  Access the E-Trakit system.
   

City Inspections

Due to the state shutdown a number of cities began to handle their own electrical inspections.  Go to the current list of cities that handle inspections.  Please contact cities before doing work to verify whether state or city is responsible for inspections.
   

2011 Code Effective August 8th

Due to the state shutdown, the 2011 National Electrical Code will go into effect Aug. 8, 2011. Electrical permits/Requests for Electrical Inspection received by the department on or after the effective date will be subject to the provisions of the 2011 National Electrical Code regardless of when the work was started.  Go to http://www.dli.mn.gov/CCLD/NewREI.asp for more information.

   

Contractor Shutdown Notice

State contractors may not be paid starting July 1st . . . If Governor and Legislature do not reach a budget agreement before the end of June, all state contractors and vendors will not be paid starting July 1, 2011.  Go to the notice published  in the State Register.

   

Individual License Renewals

Renewal notices for licensed and unlicensed workers are being sent out by the state approximately 60 days in advance of the expiration date. If you have not received your notice and your license is up for renewal, the state has now made available online renewal and change of address forms. Federal lead certification requirements

Federal lead removal certification requirements went into effect April 22, 2010.  State requirements of certification prior to pulling permits will go into effect in October.   The regulations which include limited exceptions, require contractors working on pre 1978 residential buildings to complete lead removal certification. Go to the federal regulations (Subpart E).

Board Issues Interpretation on Article 547

The Board of Electricity at its April 13th meeting issued a final interpretation that article 547 of the National Electrical Code does not apply to premises where buildings, structures, and areas are used for agricultural purposes but not animal confinement. Read the interpretation letter.
