You can register one of three ways:

National Electrical Code Training examines the current code and reviews changes made from the previous code year.

  • All classes based on the 2008 NEC.

Class Outline

Day 1 - Introduction through Chapter 3

  • Chapter 1: Overall introduction of Code. Covers Articles 80, 100 and 110.
  • Chapter 2: Covers Articles 200, 210, 220, 225, 230, 240, 250 and 285 (TVSS).
  • Chapter 3: Covers Articles 300, 305, 310, 314, 320, 334, 338, 342, 344, 354, 362 and 392.

Day 2 - Chapter 4 through Chapter 8

  • Chapter 4: Covers Articles 400, 404, 406, 408, 410, 430, 440 and 445.
  • Chapter 5: Covers Articles 500, 501, 502, 505, 511, 514, 517, 520, 525, 527, 547, 550 and 555.
  • Chapter 6: Covers Articles 600, 604, 620, 640, 645, 647, 680, 690 and 692.
  • Chapter 7: Covers Articles 700, 701, 702, 725, 760 and 770.
  • Chapter 8: Covers Articles 800, 820 and 830.

Q: What do I get when I take a deluxe class?
A: A smaller class size with opportunity for discussion and Q&A, an IAEI's 2008 Analysis of Changes workbook. Meals and refreshments (i.e. morning coffee and rolls, noon lunch each day, and afternoon soft drinks and cookies), up to 16 code credits for your license renewal (8 hours per day), and a certificate of completion.
Q: What do I get when I take a standard class?
A: A larger class size with a lecture format, meals and refreshments (i.e. morning coffee and rolls, noon lunch each day, and afternoon soft drinks and cookies), up to 16 code credits for your license renewal (8 hours per day), and a certificate of completion.
Q: What is NEC Code Training?
A: An overall introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the new changes to the current code. The various sections of the code book are interpreted in detail by MEA's expert instructors who have an in-depth understanding of the NEC. Each chapter or article contains overhead transparencies, video clips, class participation, and a question & answer period following each chapter.
Q: When and where can I take the class?
A: Classes are held throughout Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.  Class time for both days is 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 a.m.  Lunch is provided from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Q: Do I need anything else for this class?
A: The current NEC code book is strongly recommended for class. Order online or call MEA at (612) 827-6117 or (800) 829-6117 to order.
Q: Do I need to send anything to the State to verify that I have completed my continuing education?
A: No. MEA will send all necessary paperwork to the State to verify your attendance at class. However, you will need to complete and mail your license renewal paperwork with any renewal fees that are required. More information can be found at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry website.
