Important Changes to Minnesota Electrical Licensing Exam
As Spring is approaching and the busy season gets closer, having licensed electricians in the field working independently can save both your company and your customer valuable time and resources. If you or any of your employees are thinking about sitting for the JW exam, now is the time. There are two big changes that can work to your advantage if you start preparing now!
1.) The test will change as of July 1 to reflect the new 2017 NEC changes. We highly recommend taking your exam before then, especially if you are more familiar with the 2014 NEC and have already started studying based on the 2014 NEC materials.
2.) The Journeyworker exam structure has changed, effective Jan. 1, 2017. We hope this will be to the advantage of test takers, and help to increase the pass rate on this notoriously difficult exam. The previous format was 80 multiple choice with 5 options with many of the questions requiring two or three correct choices. The new format is 100 questions with 4 choices and only one correct answer.
The good news is that MEA can help you prepare for the electrical exam, and offers a few different resources at your disposal. Of course, MEA members enjoy special discounted pricing on these programs.
A.) Pre-Test: Online assessment to help determine if there are certain subject areas in which you need guidance or additional help. A 50-question test broken out into 6 subject areas.
B.) Classroom Prep Class: A 2-day classroom setting for 16 hours total. Discuss with fellow exam takers and get immediate answers to your questions from the instructor
C.) Online Self-Paced: Perfect for the busy electrician who needs flexibility in their schedule. View the materials from this course at your own pace as many times as you would like for 60 days.
