Wendy Fry - The Retrofit Companies, Little Canada/Owatonna

This month we are proud to announce that The Retrofit Companies, Inc. marks 30 years of membership with the Electrical Association. With locations in Little Canada and Owatonna, the company specializes in energy-efficient lighting and design, electrical contracting, and environmental recycling services.

Since its founding in 1992 by Steve Kath, The Retrofit Companies has remained a family-owned business. After years of working on the railroad, Steve decided to venture out on his own. His daughter, Wendy Fry, joined the company as a sales representative on the environmental side before taking on broader sales responsibilities in 2006. Her leadership skills led her to become Sales Manager, and by 2018, she took over as President following Steve’s retirement. Wendy now holds the majority ownership, while Steve remains a minority owner.

Wendy takes great pride in the team she has built, currently 51 employees strong. She has carefully assembled a group of talented professionals whose strengths complement one another, ensuring a collaborative and supportive work environment. She finds immense fulfillment in providing a thriving workplace where employees can support their families and enjoy their work. Although The Retrofit Companies had been a long-standing member of the Electrical Association, Wendy didn’t fully realize its value until she took over leadership. A simple glance at a membership invoice led her to explore the many benefits the association provides.

Over the years, The Retrofit Companies has utilized the Association’s apprenticeship programs, attended industry events, and taken advantage of educational opportunities. Wendy deeply appreciates the association’s dedication to keeping members informed on industry issues and regulations.
