Membership

Before You Renew

Submitted by Alex Hyatt, National Sales Manager

It’s that time of the year again, when many of you are renewing your memberships. By now, you’ve probably received your annual dues invoice from us. Before mailing in your check or logging into the website to make that payment, we encourage you to take a moment to pause and reflect on all of the great ways the Electrical Association has contributed to the industry over the years and continues to contribute. Ask yourself, “Why do I belong?”

As a follow-up to our five year strategic plan that took place last year, our facilitator, Tecker International, conducted a series of interviews with several members. The years of membership of those interviewed ranged from less than 10 years to over 50 years and both small shops and mid-sized to large shops were included.

The common theme that came out of these interviews is that the Electrical Association provides a strong commitment to:

Quality in Education
Focus on electrical codes and new safety regulations is essential for continuing education. The Apprentice Training Program is also of high value to our members. It allows contractors in any part of Minnesota, as well as other states, to give their apprentices access to quality technical instruction and helps to build a pipeline of highly trained electricians.

Government Relations
Advocacy for local contractors is an important part of why members renew year after year. The voice and interests of our members is heard and represented with state legislators, regulators and industry stakeholders. The Electrical Association is the only association in Minnesota that specifically represents Electrical Contractors.

Ethics
Advocacy for subcontractor fairness and an emphasis on wages and benefits. The bi-annual Wage and Benefit report that the Association publishes is of high value and allows our members to stay competitive.

Communication
Overall, participants felt that the Electrical Association does a good job communicating with its members. Most read the monthly newsletters and member alerts. Additionally, they were pleased with the response rate and personal attention given by staff to answer their questions about a variety of topics.

Whatever your reason may be for belonging, none of this would be possible without the help and support of your annual dues dollars.

We value you as a member and look forward to finding even more ways to serve you in 2023, as the Electrical Association enters its 95th year in business!
