2008 Code Adoption Update
At the August 12th meeting of the Board of Electricity, the Board voted to put the 2008 NEC into effect
starting September 15th. All work done on or after September 15th will be required to comply with the
2008 code. In addition, all license exams on or after September 16th will be based on the 2008 code.
Independent Contractor Exemption Certificates
New rules have been adopted that require all electrical contractors and technology systems
contractors who are not corporations, partnerships, or limited liability companies to apply for and
obtain an Independent Contractor Exemption certificate beginning January 1, 2009.

Filing Complaints
Complaints about violations of the Electrical licensing code including complaints about unlicensed
people doing electrical work or workers doing work that they are not licensed to do can be submitted
to the Department of Labor and Industry
enforcement department.
Homeland Security Requires E-Verify for Federal Contractors
All federal contractors must verify work eligibility of their employees through the
government-run E-verify system. It provides an automated link to the Social Security Administration
database and DHS immigration records and is free to use. For more information and to sign up for

Registration of Unlicensed Individuals
Forms are now available for unlicensed individuals to register with the Department of Labor and Industry.

New Inspection Fees, Request Procedures and Forms
There is a new online permit process for electrical inspections effective July 1st. Fillable
forms are available online.
